Top Ten... for life??
It's funny how a song can move you. I know I have written before about the golden oldies like Stand by Me and Lean on Me (theme anyone!?!), but it's true. Everyone has that one song. That one that really could be put on repeat and left for atleast a couple of spins whilest the listener relaxes... or does housework... or jogs... or whatever one does to destress.
I was recently put in the position of having to pick my ten favourite songs. I mean all time favourite... stuck in my head and never turn off and could never hate them songs. And my cd burner broke... sorry Jay!
I found atleast 20, but I have narrowed it to 15. It was the toughest job ever (and I have seen an amputee get his wound cleaned!).
In no particular order (that wouldn't be fair!)
Leavin' - Paul Brandt

This song makes me flighty. Like I don't have to sit still. There are better places to go and more things to see. Why plan? Just go!
Hand in My Pocket - Alanis Morrisette

I just genuinely love this song. It's one of my driving songs. It's my rockin' out song. It's just a great song. Not too fast, not heavy... great harmonica!
The River (Live) - Garth Brooks
I actually love both versions, but the live one that starts with just the piano makes me happy. It's a highly spiritual song, but I just enjoy Garth live. Well, I used to before he decided to retire and sleep with his money... I mean honey.Time of Your Life - Green Day

This song just has so many happy memories for me. I remember after a (insert name of evil fitness chain here) dance Mike, Kevin, Meagan and I sat in my car and sang along to this song while the engine warmed up. It was awesome. Thanks guys!
Widow in the Window - Great Big Sea

I loved this song as soon as I heard it. Meagan, Susan and I got to here it live at the Molson Ampitheatre and it was fantastic. I remember reading a bunch of reviews of the show where people didn't like it, but they can just shut up and go find another band to listen to. Losers.
Landing in London - Three Doors Down (feat. Bob Seger)

This song gives me goosebumps. Everything about the song is perfect in my opinion. The melody, the lyrics... Bob Seger sounds great! It's a nice slow, mildly tortorous song! It's just good. If you haven't heard... well, hear it.
I Meant to do That - Paul Brandt

To me this song was just such a great idea. An old man looking back at all the things he meant to do. Another song I love because it is a motivator for me. What will we all look back on and think we shoulda, woulda, coulda....
Right Where I Need to be - Gary Allan

A good rockin' country song. It's short and I love to blast it. Great bass, good, and let's face it... Gary is wicked hot in the video!
Standing Outside the Fire (Live) - Garth Brooks

A fantastic song live! Awesome video! I like this song because of the message (are you sensing a theme yet?) about getting off your butt and living. I am such a geek I know, but I would rather be doing this than homework.
Healing Hands - Mark Cohn

I just love the slow tune of this song. I had never heard of this guy before, nor do I own a single album of his, but I bet he is fantastic. He has such a great voice for this song.
Piano Man - Billy Joel

I do not own one single Billy Joel album. The only Billy Joel songs I heard growing up were the ones my mother used to play over and over again. Living with my aunt I heard this one more than once and I just love it. We went for dinner a few times at the Old School House and there is a literal piano man there. He played this song and though it wasn't a great version it was still pretty good. After that I had to include it in my list!
When You Call My Name (Live) - Paul Brandt
Yup, I love Paul Brandt. This is probably one of the two most romantic songs I have ever heard. I used to wish it was an album cut, but I definitely think the audience adds to it.Ordinary Day (Live) - Great Big Sea

I actually adore both versions of this song, and the video. Sean McCann and rugby.... sorry... song.. right. Love the Bodhran and guitar! Just a great message about realizing tomorrow will be here soon so whatever is going on... just chill. I think this should be a world anthem sometimes.
The Change - Garth Brooks

The beginning of this song always always gives me goosebumps. The fact that the video is really moving helps to, but this a great song for people who are in it to help people. Firemen, police, volunteers, doctors, nurses, everyone. This should be a statement for them.
Hope - Paul Brandt

Hands down one of the two most romantic songs ever. This song was written for WorldVision which Paul and his wife belong to. It is a song of gratefulness. Being saved, being the light, etc, etc. Just a great song!
So that is it. Honourable mentions would take up an entire new blog though. Off to school now! No homework done today!
